Native Grasses and Forbs Pre-Variety Germplasm Certification

QUICK LINKS

Instructions for tagging material in the Native Grasses & Forbs program

State and Federal Seed Laws require that certification labels be securely fastened to containers before
seed leaves the original owner's possession. Seed without certification tags or a certification certificate
is not certified seed. MCIA will issue tags when certification is completed. Tags will be printed at the MCIA office if they are requested on the sampling report. Approved conditioning plants with tag-printing privileges can also print tags for seed conditioned in their plant. For seed sold in bulk or as components of variety blends or mixtures, MCIA will provide certification certificates to applicant-producers, approved conditioners and approved vendors of certified seed. When certification tags are not attached, a seller of certified seed must issue a completed certification certificate to each buyer of certified materials at the time of delivery. Certification tags shall contain the following information:

  • Species (Latin and common name)
  • Germplasm name or genetic origin
  • Lot number
  • Generation - if applicable (Selected and Tested classes)
  • Certification number OR the number of the MCIA approved conditioner that printed the tags written as follows: year of conditioning-AP-member number (2003-AP-9999)
